12 Interview
with Miguel Oscar Menassa held by Florencia Gemetrio. Published in the
supplement LAS 12 on Friday, August 29. "THE
WOMAN AND I" The
characters of the myth and those from Homer only spoke through the gaze and the
desire. They spoke as Miguel Oscar Menassa does in "The woman and I"
(Madrid-Buenos Aires, 2003) with incandescent desire. As Aegisthus did before
Clytemnestra's ivory-like body, Agamemnon's wife. Who
diluted our bodies in the word love? What
happened in the world while we were making love?
And Aegisthus entertained the hero who was coming from Troy, that
unavoidable Agamemnon and his friends. And after the banquet he killed all of
them.
It was the design of sex and of desire. The sex, whose centre was
everywhere and the circumference nowhere. The sex which was highlighted by
Menassa in those enigmatic signs as in the "totemnight"
expressed in Olivero Girondo's insomnious book "En
la masmédula"
The dilution of the bodies which was highlighted by Menassa in "The
woman and I", was the dilution of love that returned to pick up its
fragments, because
of those erotic instances which founded the being and the drive of life.
Homer knew of it. However, he wrote or conceived his hexameters so that
the protagonists of desire wouldn't blush. He knew of the Deity that we call Sex
and of its influence in the myth which made the world move., the incessant
creation and the ideal of the imminent transfiguration of each one of the events.
Then, as Menassa, Homer also says: "what happened, happened".
Time slided until it diluted itself, and in spite of that going by desire was
the root of time.
The woman and I, a book of that
deity which we call Sex and of which we don't know how it finds a place in the
desire to create other worlds and other laws that man will have to glorify to
reaffirm his existence.
When Aegisthus loves Clytemnestra, moves forward creation without
measuring its consequences. Miguel Oscar Menassa's book is a portrait of human
dimension. Juan-Jacobo
